We here at Three for One Trading are incredibly proud to have been given the chance to forward you the opportunity to own one of Christopher Rush‘s original paintings.

We acquired the artwork together with a beautiful collection of vintage cards by Alexander D. from Germany, who was kind enough to acknowledge our deal in a small testimonial.

At the end of 2025, we acquired one of 288 existing original Limited Edition Alpha paintings. Christopher Rush signature can be found in the bottom right corner of the passepartout, which is glued to the painting itself. Although the wooden picture frame is just an accessory, it came originally with the art and will be sold with it.

To achieve its iconic look, Rush used acrylic paint and airbrush and not oil, as we previously assumed, on canvas. The painting itself is rather small, the different measurements are:

• Painting: 17.8 × 14 cm / 7.01 × 5.51 in

• Canvas: 28 × 24 cm / 11.02 × 9.45 in

• Frame: 39 × 35 cm / 15.35 × 13.78 in

Christopher Rush was one of the original 25 artists for Magic: The Gathering. He was responsible for many different iconic artworks on cards, such as Black Lotus, Brainstorm or Lightning Bolt. In total, Rush did the illustrations of 124 Magic cards, including this very Forest you see here today.

Together with Jesper Myrfors, Christopher Rush also designed the famous back of the Magic card as well as the five mana symbols you nowadays see on every Magic: The Gathering card. It’s needless to say that Rush was deeply involved in Magic’s origin story.

Unfortunately, Christopher Rush passed away on February 10, 2016. He left a huge footprint on the game we have loved for decades and still enjoy today.
