Magic: The Gathering Gift Ideas 2025
Magic: The Gathering Gift Ideas 2025
The Perfect Gifts for the
Magic Player In Your Life
Original Magic: The Gathering Gift Ideas
Author: Ben Guilfoyle
This guide is a stress-free roadmap to buying Magic gifts in 2024, especially if you don’t know a Lightning Bolt from a Llanowar Elves. Ben Guilfoyle breaks recommendations down by budget (€25, €50, €100+) and by how well you know the game, favoring evergreen accessories, experiences, and personalized touches over pure lottery-ticket boosters.
This article focuses on:
-
Who It’s For. Three reader profiles: No Magic experience, some experience, and long-time grinder – each get tailored suggestions, with clear explanations so non-players can shop confidently without accidentally buying the wrong thing.
-
€25 Tier: Everyday Upgrades. Practical, low-risk picks like life pads, sleeves (with size guidance), dry-erase token cards, stylish basic lands, and creator Patreons give players tools they’ll use constantly without breaking the bank.
-
€50 Tier: Personalized & Play-Focused. Ideas include custom sleeves and playmats, quality binders, tournament entries for memorable event days, altered-art cards, or that one missing staple – gifts that feel thoughtful and tuned to a specific player.
-
€100+ Tier: Big Moments. Higher-end options range from booster boxes and curated “build your own draft” experiences (like 341’s Chaos Draft Advent Calendars) to framed Magic art and advanced staples – positioned as ways to create stories, not just open packs.
-
Philosophy: Memories Over Randomness. Throughout, Ben warns against blind booster gambling for picky players and instead champions gifts that are useful, personal, and social – things that protect collections, level up gameplay, or bring friends together around the table.
Giving gifts is both exciting and stressful for me, especially when shopping. I want to make gift-giving for the Magic player in your life much easier by sharing practical suggestions.
I will offer gifts at three prices: €25, €50, and €100+.
There is a section for each kind of buyer, too:
- I have no experience with Magic
- I have some experience with Magic
- I am a Magic expert
Feel free to mix and match across these categories if you are feeling confident!

I Have No Experience With Magic
This is the section for parents, friends, and family of a Magic player. You know they love the game, but you don’t know what to buy. I hope this helps you most of all!
If you don’t know much about Magic, my most important advice might surprise you: avoid buying random Magic cards as gifts.
Cards come in a booster pack for around €5–€10. These are a lottery. There are 15 random cards in one pack. Most people are looking for very specific cards to add to a deck. I am going to recommend timeless gifts!
€25 Options
Starting off, we have accessories all for a couple of Euros. Buy multiple items in this category and combine them into a gift basket!
Notepads/Life Pads
Many Magic players use little notepads to track their life total during a game. There are two kinds, paper and digital..
The paper life pads are little notebooks. They come in lots of different styles. If there is a store in your area, it’s a good idea to see if they have any! Three for One Trading has their own available for one euro each.
Digital life pads cost around €10. They are similar to an Etch-a-Sketch. You can get them in a variety of sizes. Ultimate Guard and Boogie Board both make digital life pads. I recommend the five-inch/12 cm size. It fits in a pocket and is easy to carry around if you’re moving tables at a tournament.
Sleeves
Sleeves are used to protect cards when you play with them. Every time you build a deck, you’ll need sleeves. Sleeves are usually sold in packs of 50, 60, or 100. Most players will need 100 sleeves for their deck. Popular sleeve brands include Ultimate Guard and Dragon Shield.
There are two different sizes of sleeves: “standard” and “Japanese.” Magic and Pokémon use “Standard” size sleeves. Yu-Gi-Oh uses Japanese-size sleeves.
- “Standard” size: 66 × 92 mm (2 5/8” x 3 21/32”)
- “Japanese” size: 62 × 89 mm (2 7/16” x 3 1/2”)
When in doubt, you can check the measurements on the box or ask the staff in the store. Sleeves cost around €10.
Dry-Erase Tokens
This is my favorite gift in this category. This is a deck of cards that you can draw on with a dry-erase marker. Magic often asks the player to use “Tokens” to represent special objects in the game. I won’t go into the gameplay mechanics here. But suffice it to say, it can bring a bit of fun to a game. Apostrophe and Infinitokens are good options here.
€50 Budget
At €50 we have some wiggle room to get a bit more creative! Each of the items I will discuss next is in the €25-€50 range.
Custom Sleeves and Playmat
We already discussed sleeves previously. But, for a little extra, you can get custom designs printed on sleeves! Dragon Shield offers a great service that lets you bring a personal touch to a set of sleeves. I bought my fiancé a set with her pet snake!
Playmats are another important part of the game. Mats protect cards when we play with them. They come in a wide range of designs. Some feature unique artwork; others feature iconic characters from Magic.
Binders
A binder is a book with slots to store cards. They hold cards that are not in use or display cards for sale. Binders can come with removable or non-removable pages.
- Removable page binders look like a ring binder you would use for documents. You can buy special binder sheets with slots to hold cards.
- Non-removable binders come in many sizes. They hold four, nine, or twelve cards per page.
Removable page binders are great for players with large collections. The ring binder style makes it easy to move and organize cards. You can buy a pack of 30 binder pages here.
The non-removable kind is smaller and can be easier to carry around. I particularly like the Ultimate Guard Zipfolio. The zip gives extra protection, especially in transit.
€100+ Budget
Going into the higher price bracket! Here are some recommendations from outside the world of Magic. Here are some of my favorite board games that scratch the same itch as Magic. You can pick up both games for around €100!
Sushi Go!

Here’s the idea: you are at a conveyor-belt sushi bar. As the food passes by, try to assemble the best meal! In Sushi Go, everyone is dealt a hand of cards featuring adorable sushi. You choose one card from your hand. Everyone reveals what they picked at the same time. Then, you pass your hand to the next player. Keep going until all the cards are taken.
As the game goes on, you begin to see what sushi the rest of the table is looking for. There’s great strategy in tracking what everyone else is selecting. Once all the cards are used up, count up your points. A winner is decided after three rounds. Magic players will recognize this as a “draft.” Sushi Go comes in a travel-size, too!
Ascension

Ascension is another fantastic board game for Magic players. It’s designed by Magic Pro players Justin Gary, Rob Dougherty, and Brian Kibler!
This is a “deck building” game. Everyone begins with a small, weak deck. At the center of the table is a deck containing monsters and heroes. Six cards are dealt out on the table, like in Texas-Hold’Em. On your turn, you can fight monsters, or buy heroes from the center.
- Defeating monsters will earn you points towards winning the game.
- Buying heroes will improve your deck in the long run.
Ascension is a balancing act. If you keep buying new cards, you’ll never fight any monsters. But if you never buy new heroes, you won’t be able to defeat the big monsters. Ascension also has plenty of expansions to keep you on your toes. If you ever get bored with the base game, add in an expansion for a whole host of new strategies!
I Have Some Experience With Magic
This section is for someone who knows how to play Magic. You play Magic somewhat regularly. Maybe you attend the occasional prerelease event. Perhaps you have a regular group you meet up with for Magic, but you have other hobbies too!
€25 Options
Foil/Special Art Basic Lands
Magic has a lot of basic lands. Everyone has a favorite. Over the last few years, we have seen an explosion of gorgeous basic lands. This is an awesome gift that can bring a personal touch to a friend’s deck.
We have the adorable seasonal Bloomburrow lands. Do you have a Fallout fan in your life? Check out the basic lands from that set! Maybe they are an old-head that likes the brown border of basic lands of the 90s.
If you know their favorite deck, you can give them a set of lands to match their style. Alternatively, if you know someone who drafts a lot, get them 10-15 of each basic land. They can use these when they go drafting, so they always have nice lands ready to go. No more borrowing lands from the store!
There are, of course, many more expensive basic lands, too. If you really love someone, buy them a set of Arabian Nights Mountains!
€50 Budget
Tournament Entry
Paying for someone’s entry to a tournament isn’t just about the gameplay. It’s a chance to make memories with your friends. Some of my fondest memories are prerelease. Getting the train into the city, meeting my friends from across the country.
If your city has a tournament scene or conventions, even better! Don’t just buy them a ticket; make it a nice day. If travel is involved, plan out the route so they have nothing to worry about. If it’s a city you have never been to, find a nice place to grab lunch. Make it an occasion they’ll remember!
Altered Art

Getting custom art on one of their favorite cards is an awesome way to personalize a deck. I put this in the €50 tier, but prices will vary. Force of Will is a €50 card before the artist touches it.
Another factor is the type of alter. Border extensions take the card art and expand it for a full edge-to-edge look. These are some of my favorites. It’s hard to tell where the original card ends and the paint begins. These borderless transitions are gorgeous!
Other alters will completely change the card. They will paint over entire sections or even the whole card! They treat it as a tiny canvas. There are some incredibly unique pieces in this category. They go above and beyond to turn this card into something new!
My go-to artists are evammmart and fluffytrexalters. You can find them on Instagram or Cardmarket.
€100+ Budget
Booster Box
A booster box is another opportunity to make some awesome memories with friends. Booster boxes of Standard legal sets are usually €100–€150. More exotic sets like Modern Horizons will break the €200–€300 range. Then, if you want something special, you could buy a box of something much older. The sky is the limit here. Some sets are a couple of hundreds, while others can go into the thousands!
Regardless of what set you pick, make some memories with it! Organize a sealed/draft night. Order some food and have an awesome night, opening the box and sharing the experience.
My favorite set is Conspiracy. Opening that box with my fiancé and some close friends was one of the best nights of Magic I ever had! It wasn’t about drafting money cards. It was great getting to draft a unique set with some good company!
Crossover
In recent years, Magic has done crossovers with other franchises called Universes Beyond. This includes brand-new cards or redesigns of old cards with new artwork. The crossovers range from Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40K to SpongeBob and Iron Maiden.
Some cards are widely available, while others were timed exclusives. The good news is, Three For One has you covered. You can browse our full selection here. A list of every crossover can be found here under the “List of featured brands” section.
Whether it’s singles, Commander decks, or accessories, check out Three for One Trading.
I Have Years of Experience With Magic
This is for folks who live and breathe Magic. You watch videos and read articles about the game. Your main hobby is Magic.
€25 Options
Patreon Membership/Subscriptions

Many Magic creators and Pro players have a Patreon or subscription services. These can range in price depending on the creator. Many will offer sideboard guides, Discord community access, signed cards, and deck suggestions. This is a great way to get someone involved with specific creators and communities.
Some pro players are experts at specific decks and strategies. You will level up faster when exposed to the best players.
€50 Budget
That One Card
Magic is an expensive hobby. Sometimes players just don’t have the cash to get everything they need for a deck. Find out what cards they are missing. Whether it’s Modern, Pauper, or Commander, there is something they need.
If you cannot find an exact card that is missing, try buying format staples. Lands are a safe option, as they will always find a home. You can mix and match here. Splash out for a fancy foil, or buy a couple of lower-cost cards. The following lands are a safe option that everyone will always be grateful to have more of:
- Surveil Lands
- Ravnica Shock Lands
- Fetchlands
Undercity Sewers (€25), Watery Grave (€15), and Polluted Delta (€15) come in at €55 depending on which editions you buy! Their white/green alternatives go for around €25 altogether!
The sky is the limit here. If it’s someone really special, Three for One Trading also has a great selection of old-school cards. Power Nine, the restricted list, and Alpha editions can all be found in our store. For our full catalog of cards, visit their Cardmarket account.
€100+ Budget
At €100+ we can get something special and creative!
Build Your Own Draft
Even better than a booster box, design your own draft. There are lots of ways to do this. Three for One Trading makes two Advent calendars featuring packs to draft over the holiday season. There’s a premium version too for an extra special gift! Whether you go for the base or premium versions, you’re going to have a one-of-a-kind draft!
The base version is €150. It comes with 24 packs. The full list can be found here. But some highlights are:
- Time Spiral Remastered
- Mystery Booster
- Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty (one of my favorite draft sets)
The premium version costs €250. The packs here are worth the upgrade! Of note:
- Mystery Booster 2
- Original Modern Masters
- Ice Age
You can find the full list here.
Chaos drafts are a lot of fun. You never know what you’re going to get! Whichever edition you decide to buy, be sure to share the experience. Drafting with some close friends over the holiday season and having fun!
Art
Magic has so much beautiful art. Players have a favorite card, set, or artist. Many artists will offer prints and canvases of their iconic pieces. Price here can vary based on the artist and size. With that said, this is a beautiful way to incorporate Magic into a person’s life outside game pieces and accessories.
The quiet scenes of Sarah Finnegan are beautiful both on a card and on a wall. I am particularly fond of her Mossfire Valley and Glacial Floodplain. The former speaks to a hard-fought battle that is now over. The blade is still coated in blood. It guides the eye down to the flowers beneath it. The background features softer pinks in the mountains. A distant sun is setting. We are at peace after a hard-fought battle.
Glacial Floodplain continues this somber tone. The floodplain is shrouded in darkness, but there is a hint of sunlight coming from out of frame. At the center, we see a raised mound. A cairn of stones and a ring. Perhaps someone important is buried here. The viewer is approaching to say one last goodbye.
The artwork of Magic is breathtaking. It makes for a beautiful gift and supports the artists who make this game what it is.

You can also make your own art. I am not well versed with a pencil or paintbrush, but I can assemble a scene! I gifted my partner a framed collection of art cards from Commander Masters.
This featured the side profile art of several legends in a collage. This was a great homage to some of her favorite artists, and legendary creatures. You could go big and frame an entire set worth of art cards, or curate the perfect selection of favorites! Or get creative and come up with your ideas!
Pro Player Coaching Session

This is the next step up from the Patreon membership we discussed before.
Many Pro players offer coaching sessions. For players who love competition, this is a great way to let them grow. Or if you know someone who is getting back into the game and wants to catch up on the meta, this is a great choice.
Out of everything on this list, coaching requires the most work to get right. With that said, it is a incredible gift for someone looking to improve. I reached out to several professional players to offer their insights here. Check out the table below to learn more.
Speaking to these players and reviewing their services, one thing kept coming up. Coaching is not just for top players. It is for anyone who wants to improve at Magic! Brian Coval of BoshNRoll described it best:
“Having someone who can assess where you are as a player and give you information it would take hundreds of games to figure out for yourself is a cheat code for improving quickly.”
Many factors come together to find the right coach. Some pros are happy to help you with a variety of decks and formats. Others are subject-matter experts. When gifting a coaching session, consider what deck your friend plays. Identify a coach who can meet their needs.
Below, I have given an outline of each coach’s specialty.
With that said, the best way to find out if a coach will suit your needs is to reach out! Some will also have gameplay on Twitch/YouTube. Ask yourself: “Is this the right person for the job?”
On a personal note, I attended a coaching session with Kevin Ishizaka (Tsubasa Cat). He is one of the best Vintage Doomsday players in the world! Having an expert’s undivided attention is invaluable. I asked questions and got an immediate answer. In our session, we did not play any games; it was purely theory and decklist discussion. This suited me, as I was new to the format and was looking to understand the heuristics of the deck and its matchups. The coaching was worth every penny. My results immediately improved!
