Today we sit down with Three for One Trading CEO Oliver Polak-Rottmann to talk about their all new retail space in the heart of Vienna.

He himself is a long time player of the game and talks about how he envisions the place to become a gathering space for the Austrian Magic the Gathering community and to give room for other games, like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Flesh and Blood and Pokémon as well.

When did you move to the new space?

We started moving in February and the project got “finished” in March. But a big piece to the identity, the extior design, was just finished recently. Before us there was an electronics supplier in the premises. Naturally a lot of people came in to ask for washing machines. We’re glad that hopefully changes now.

Why did you have to move out from the old Shop?

Our old store and office was just two blocks away but quickly turned out to be too small for our needs. We loved it there but we’re forced to move.

Any particular reasons you guys stayed in the same area?

We really identify with Ottakring, Vienna’s 16th district.

It’s also an ever up and coming area, a new underground line is beeing built and it was quite clear for us, that we want to stick around.

What changed due to the move?

We have lot more storage space and even more important, finally room to host tournaments and events again. Due the lack of room, that just wasn’t an option in the old space.

Now, with almost 300 squaremeters of space, we try to cover all the needs of Magic the Gathering players. Be it selling or buying single cards, accessories or sealed product from old to recent expansions, we have them covered.

What have been the biggest challenges due to the move?

We almost trippled in size. So we just needed more things. Be it shelves, tables or a sales counter. Planning and getting those things have been quite the project.

What can I do at the store? What are the opening times?

As mentioned before, we have a vast stock of Magic the Gathering cards, boosters and accessories. We also buy cards and we have a selected range of Flesh and Blood, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon TCG products.

Currently we are in a soft launch phase. That means the store is open from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm. When we start hosting tourneys and other events the opening times will expand.

Let’s talk about events: Any plans?

Originally we planned starting with the Innistrad release. Now, the government, softened the covid restrictions earlier than we have anticipated. Hence, we are now working towards and earlier start. We are planning to offer an enticing schedule for limited, commander and Modern players alike.

Any loose ends?

Currently we are only waiting for our WPN-Store application to go through. But that’s just a matter of time.

What are your plans for the future?

Weekly booster drafts, Modern events and a designated Commander day where you’ll be able to recast your Commander until the “wee hours”.

Personally, what are your highlights in the new store?

A major highlight is our MTG themed mural by local artist and friend Johannes Baluch, the glass counter which features MTG staples from all formats as well as the spacious and bright playing area.

Personally, I will just be happy seeing the place full of players for the first time.
